Ellie moves to post (and festival updates)

I had an amazing summer, filled with friendships and film work. I had planned to do a post talking about the highlights of my two month break, but I’ve been slammed with work ranging from Ellie work to home work. So until then, I have a brief update on the post production of Ellie, and some festival updates. Ellie The Kickstarter campaign for Ellie was more successful than I could have imagined, bringing in $5,275, which was 175% over my original […]

A month of insanity

I feel like I blinked and woke up in mid-May. The past few months have been absolutely insane, attending festivals for both “We All Go the Same” and “Kurayami no Wa”. I was still wrapping up the final colour grading for Kurayami no Wa (even on the plane), so I wasn’t able to submit it to NFFTY 2015. That being said, I’ve been off my website for some time, so a well deserved update is now here. NFFTY I attended NFFTY […]

Best Director Under 25, Ottawa Independent Video Award

In a night filled with great socializing, networking, some awesome short listed filmmakers and talented folks, I was extremely happy to attend the inaugural Ottawa Independent Video Awards. I attended not only because I was nominated in two categories (Best Music Video and Best Director Under 25) for my music video “We All Go the Same“, but also to support Ottawa’s indie filmmaking group, which I haven’t networked with in the past. I’m thrilled Ottawa is having more events like this […]

We All Go The Same at KCFF

I’ve been completely focused on editing my thriller Kurayami no Wa for the past two weeks, but I wanted to give you some festival news! After a year of being in the festival circuit, GIFTS has received four more festival acceptances since the beginning of the year! It warms me to see that GIFTS still lives out in the festival world. The only one I can publicly announce right now is the screening at the Providence Children’s Film Festival. In addition, […]

Festivals, Kurayami no Wa, and an Unnamed Music Video

Morgana is away (on her own) for the month of July, and this week she is attending Prodigy Camp outside of Seattle on a scholarship she won at NFFTY. So I (her dad) am tasked with keeping her website and social media engagement going until she returns. My first order of business? To round-up all the news from the past month… Festival Updates ASK Film Festival – This high-school film festival, in Kosovo, ran over a weekend in April. We knew that […]

May Festival Shenanigans

Over the past month my life has been filled with hectic (but very enjoyable) film work and travelling. After my trip to NFFTY in April, I was very fortunate to be able to travel to two festivals: CineYouth in Chicago, and TIFF Next Wave Jump Cuts in Toronto. Here’s a brief rundown, with pictures, of my adventures… CineYouth CineYouth was a lot of fun! It was a really awesome community that I was happy to be a part of this […]

NFFTY 2014 Adventures

I had the huge privilege of having “GIFTS” be accepted into National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) this year. NFFTY is the largest international youth film festival in the world, based in Seattle, WA. It is a four day festival, filled with speed networking, panel sessions, film screenings, Q&A with filmmakers, and parties. It really is an awesome event for youth filmmakers. This was my first year at NFFTY, and my experience was beyond fantastic. My friend Laura (who […]

CBC Ottawa Morning Interview

This morning, I had the great pleasure of being interviewed by Hallie Cotnam on CBC Ottawa Morning radio about GIFTS and the upcoming NFFTY festival. It was a wonderful experience, and everyone was extremely nice, especially Jessa the producer. Before the interview, Hallie told me that she watched GIFTS earlier in the morning, and was feeling uneasy because she isn’t a huge fan of scary movies. The idea of her nervously watching GIFTS at 4:30am made me laugh. Press the […]

GIFTS Screening and Film Festival Update

There has been A LOT of stuff going on with “GIFTS” lately, and I’ll start off with the friends and family screening we had a couple of weeks ago at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum theatre. It was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who came and supported! It was really a blast seeing everyone and being able to answer any questions that people had. Charlene Burnside (a professional photographer, family friend, and the Mom of two cast […]

Youth by Youth Cinema at CIFF

I’m excited to announce that my short film “A Day in the Life of a Montessori Junior High Class: The Element” will be shown in the “Youth by Youth Cinema” division of the Calgary International Film Festival! Over sixteen short films created by youth from across Canada, the United States, and the U.K., will be presented on September 22nd. I wish I could be there to see the other selections, but unfortunately I can’t. Also, congratulations to all the other […]
